Inspiring the Innovators of Tomorrow.
The second of our FIRST® LEGO® League Challenge Tournament took place at our ETAS site in York. The event was co-hosted in partnership between ETAS and the University of York and saw over 80 students from nine local schools put their robot designs to the test in a series of competitive matches.
Teams had to programme their robots to complete a series of Arts-themed missions during a two-and-a-half-minute countdown to score as many points as possible.
The scores from the robot game were then added to the team’s innovation project score where each team had to present their solution to a real-world problem in front of a panel of ETAS judges. The problem was designed in line with this year’s “Masterpiece” theme – which looks at the integration of the Arts into STEM.
The chaos continued into the afternoon as the teams got stuck into a LEGO tower challenge, where each team competed to see who could build the tallest Lego brick tower!
To help make the day possible we had the help of 45 volunteers from Bosch, ETAS, University of York and the Institute of Technology and Engineering (IET). Our volunteers took on roles which included being judges, referees, team coaches and event volunteers on the day. By associates dedicating their time to sharing their expertise and skills with the students is helping to increase the understanding of STEM within young people ensuring the sustainability of our future workforce.
Thank you to all volunteers involved.
After a day full of challenges to conquer, it was time for the final awards ceremony.
"Lego of my Bricks" from Bradford Grammar School, the returning champions were once again crowned overall winners of the tournament and have secured their place in the National Finals which takes place in Harrogate later in the year.
